Israeli occupation forces detain nearly 100 Palestinians in overnight West Bank raids
Israeli occupation forces launched a widespread campaign of detentions and field interrogations overnight and into Thursday morning, targeting around 95 Palestinians across multiple towns and areas in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) reported.
The raids and interrogations were concentrated mainly in Aqaba in Tubas Governorate, Madama in Nablus Governorate, and Yatta in southern Hebron, as well as locations in Jenin, Bethlehem, and al-Bireh. Field interrogations made up the majority of the cases.
In Qalqilya, occupation forces carried out a large-scale detention operation specifically targeting former prisoners and their families, including the mother of a former prisoner and the wife of a current prisoner. Troops stormed and ransacked dozens of homes, among them the residence of Muayyad Shaaban, head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.
The PPS stated that the raids were accompanied by the deliberate vandalism and destruction of household contents and physical assaults on residents, reflecting an ongoing escalation in the use of force and violence against the Palestinian people.
This latest wave of repression coincides with a surge in colonist attacks on Palestinian towns and villages during the olive harvest season. Palestinians have faced repeated assaults on their land, trees, and property, alongside continued land seizures and settlement expansion.
The Society stressed that mass detentions and field interrogations form a central pillar of the Israeli occupation’s system of control over the Palestinian people, alongside home demolitions, raids, abuse, and attacks on civilians and their property. These policies have witnessed an unprecedented intensification since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
More than 26,000 Palestinians have been detained in the West Bank alone since the onset of the war on Gaza, according to the PPS, in addition to thousands more detained by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. Israel itself announced on Wednesday that it had carried out 46,000 detentions and interrogations of Palestinians in the West Bank over the same period.
The PPS warned that the continued commission of these violations in the absence of international accountability only emboldens the occupation to intensify detentions, field interrogations, and other tools of repression. It renewed its urgent call on the international community and human rights organizations to fulfill their responsibilities and hold Israel accountable for its ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people, including mass detentions, field interrogations, torture, deliberate killings, and relentless settlement activity.
