Jordan condemns Israeli decision to classify UNRWA as terrorist organization
Jordan has condemned the Israeli Knesset’s decision to designate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufyan Qudah criticized the decision, describing it as an "attempt to kill the agency, assassinate it politically, and target its symbolism," which supports the right of Palestinian refugees to return and receive compensation under international law.
"The ongoing Israeli allegations and measures targeting UNRWA, aiming to dismantle its pivotal and basic role in providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people under its UN mandate, represent a blatant violation of international law and Israel's obligations as the occupying power,” Qudah stated.
He emphasized the essential role of the UN Agency in providing vital services to Palestinian refugees across its five areas of operation, particularly in Gaza, which is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing Israeli conflict since October.
Qudah called on the international community to continue offering political and financial support to UNRWA. He highlighted that the Agency's services are irreplaceable until the Palestinian issue is resolved through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders.
