Turkish Airlines has recommenced commercial flights to Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli.
This news comes after a ten-year hiatus, and was announced by Libyan Transportation Minister Mohamed al-Shohobi during a press conference.
"The return of Turkish Airlines is a message of assurance to international aviation organizations," Minister al-Shohobi declared. He emphasized that this development signifies Libya's commitment to upholding the highest safety and security standards in civil aviation.
The Minister further extended an invitation to other airlines, particularly those unsure of the current security situation, to resume flights to the region.
Expressing his appreciation for Turkish Airlines as a valuable partner, al-Shohobi looks forward to future collaboration in areas such as training, maintenance services, and potential investments within the Libyan aviation sector.
This resumption of flights follows a period of unrest that began in 2014, when violent clashes between armed factions forced many foreign businesses, including airlines, to leave the country. The return of Turkish Airlines suggests a positive turning point for Libya's aviation industry. (ILKHA)
