Morocco’s Monarch grants royal mercy to over 1,500 on Eid Al-Fitr

King Mohammed VI has granted a royal pardon to 1,533 inmates across Morocco on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, the Ministry of Justice announced.
The pardons, a customary act during religious and national holidays, include detainees serving various sentences, with 31 individuals convicted of extremism and terrorism among the recipients. These beneficiaries have shown a commitment to Morocco’s core values and renounced radical ideologies.
The pardoned group includes inmates fully released from their remaining sentences, others with reduced prison terms, and some whose life sentences were commuted to fixed terms. Certain fines were canceled, though in some cases, prison terms were pardoned while fines remained.
This act highlights Morocco’s focus on justice, rehabilitation, and deradicalization, particularly through efforts to reintegrate reformed offenders into society. As the nation celebrates the end of Ramadan, the royal decree reflects King Mohammed VI’s emphasis on mercy, unity, and social harmony. (ILKHA)
