Indonesia's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that Mount Merapi, one of the nation's most active volcanoes, erupted on Sunday.
The eruption occurred on the island of Sumatra, and ash was observed reaching 3,000 meters above the volcano's peak, as confirmed by PVMBG's Head, Hendra Gunawan.
The eruption, which took place at 2:54 p.m. local time (0754 GMT), has not resulted in any immediate reports of damage or casualties.
