Petro to Trump: Your greed will destroy humanity
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has issued a strong response to U.S. President Donald Trump's recent imposition of visa restrictions on Colombian officials and their families.
In a detailed social media post, Petro criticized Trump's policies, particularly targeting his views on oil and greed.
"I don't like your oil. Your greed will destroy humanity," Petro stated, condemning Trump's approach to international relations and environmental issues. He emphasized Colombia's desire for freedom and independence, rejecting any notion of submission to foreign powers.
Petro's response also included references to significant figures in U.S. history, such as labor leaders Sacco and Vanzetti, highlighting his personal connection to their struggles. He underscored Colombia's rich historical and cultural heritage, asserting the nation's independence and deep ties to its past.
In retaliation for the U.S. tariffs, Petro announced a 50% tariff on U.S. imports, promoting Colombian products and labor. This move has garnered support from Latin American leaders, including those from Honduras, Cuba, Venezuela, and Bolivia. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called for unity between Colombia and Venezuela to achieve peace in the region.
The escalating tensions between the U.S. and Colombia mark a significant moment in international relations, with both nations implementing measures that could have far-reaching economic and political implications. (ILKHA)
