Russian attacks kill nine, injure dozens in Ukraine
A series of Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past day have left nine people dead and at least 38 others injured, according to regional authorities.
Ukrainian forces reported shooting down 24 of the 39 drones, including Shahed-type attack drones, launched by Russia overnight. The Air Force said another 14 drones disappeared from radars, believed to be decoys used to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense.
In addition, Russia launched four ballistic missiles in the early hours of Jan. 18. Two of the missiles, identified as either Iskander-M or North Korean KN-23 models, were intercepted by Ukraine’s Air Force.
Fallen missile debris in Kyiv killed three people and injured at least three others, local authorities said. The attack caused significant damage to infrastructure, including a water pipeline, an administrative building, a business center, and several cars. The Lukianivska metro station entrance and a nearby McDonald’s were also damaged, according to the State Emergency Service.
In Zaporizhzhia, a Russian attack partially destroyed an industrial facility, injuring at least 10 people, Governor Ivan Fedorov reported.
A missile strike on Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast killed five people and injured 19 others, including four children. Among the deceased were four women aged 61, 50, 43, and 22, and a 20-year-old man, said Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the city’s military administration. The attack also damaged high-rise buildings, houses, and an educational institution, Governor Serhii Lysak said.
In Donetsk Oblast, one person was injured in Pokrovsk, Governor Vadym Filashkin confirmed.
In Kherson Oblast, Russian forces targeted 31 settlements, including the regional center of Kherson. The attacks killed one person and injured five others, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported. (ILKHA)
