Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Jaber Al-Sabah declared as the new Kuwait Emir

Kuwait Government has declared Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the new Kuwait Emir following the death of Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah.
Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah will be sworn in Wednesday morning in front of the National Assembly, making him the 16th ruler of the country and its 6th since independence.
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait and the Commander of the Military of Kuwait.
He succeeded to the throne following the death of his half-brother, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, earlier on Tuesday.
Nawaf had been nominated as Crown Prince on 7 February 2006 against the tradition of the Al-Sabah family, according to which the offices of Emir and Crown Prince alternate between the Al-Jaber and Al-Salem branches. (ILKHA)
