Syrian authorities arrest suspects behind Damascus bomb attacks
Syria's Interior Ministry announced that all members of the network responsible for the recent bomb attacks in Damascus have been arrested, with preliminary investigations indicating links to Daesh.
According to the ministry, the suspects were captured during coordinated security operations carried out with the General Intelligence Service in Damascus and the surrounding areas of Al-Qutayfah, Sayyidah Zaynab, Qudsaya and Ash al-Warwar.
Interior Minister Anas Khattab said in a post on X that all members of the terrorist cell responsible for the attacks had been taken into custody.
Brig. Gen. Ahmed al-Dalati, commander of the Damascus Countryside Internal Security Directorate, told Syrian state television that initial findings showed the cell was affiliated with Daesh.
Weapons and explosives seized
The Interior Ministry said security forces seized weapons, improvised explosive devices and suicide vests during the raids.
Authorities added that investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the cell's activities and identify any additional accomplices. The identities of the suspects and their specific roles in the attacks will be announced once the investigation is completed.
Attack during Macron's visit
The bombings took place near the former Ministry of Tourism building in Damascus during French President Emmanuel Macron's official visit to Syria, killing one person and injuring 36 others.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Syrian authorities said they continue security operations across the country following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad government in late 2024, describing the latest arrests as part of efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and maintain public security. (ILKHA)
