Syrian regime's artillery strikes kill 13 civilians in Idlib, White Helmets report

Syrian regime has launched intense and systematic artillery and missile attacks on northwestern Syria, particularly targeting marketplaces, residential areas, schools, and vital facilities.
The attacks occurred on Thursday, October 5th, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 13 civilians, including 3 women and 2 children, and injuring 62 others, including 18 children and 13 women, according to a statement from the White Helmets.
The military assaults by the Assad regime have notably increased over the past three days, spreading across several regions in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib.
These attacks come at a time when the civilian population is already grappling with the devastating aftermath of a 12-year war and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
The White Helmets, in their statement, condemned the attacks as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, explicitly prohibiting the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The deliberate targeting of marketplaces, residential areas, schools, public facilities, and rescue teams demonstrates a complete disregard for human life and a deliberate intent to kill civilians, undermining their stability and livelihoods.
Urgently calling on the international community to find a solution, the White Helmets stressed the need to put an end to the Assad regime's relentless onslaught on the civilian population. They highlighted the regime's blatant disregard for any framework aimed at fostering a political resolution and commitment to peace.
The organization urged accountability for the heinous attacks and grave violations, calling for decisive measures to halt ongoing assaults on innocent lives and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Ensuring the safety of civilians in Syria and upholding the fundamental principles of human rights and humanitarianism are emphasized as essential requirements after 12 years of devastating war.
The pursuit of a political solution remains elusive in the face of an international community governed by political balances and interests. (ILKHA)
