The maimed children of Gaza: Living proof of Israel’s crimes against humanity
The Ministry of Health in Gaza has revealed that the Strip now suffers the highest rate of child amputations anywhere in the world, a direct consequence of the relentless and indiscriminate Israeli assault on the besieged Palestinian population.
According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report issued in early October, over 5,000 Palestinians have undergone amputations since the start of Israel’s genocidal campaign on the Gaza Strip. Thousands of children are now living with permanent disabilities after surviving bombings that tore through their homes, schools, and refugee camps.
In light of this catastrophic situation, the Ministry of Health announced the launch of a global fundraising and mobilization campaign to establish a special international fund for the rehabilitation of amputees. The initiative seeks to rebuild Gaza’s devastated rehabilitation sector, shattered by Israel’s systematic targeting of hospitals, clinics, and medical personnel.
The Ministry emphasized that this effort is not only an urgent humanitarian response but also a moral call to the world to stand with the wounded people of Gaza — especially its innocent children, who have borne the brunt of Israel’s ongoing aggression.
A joint report released recently exposed a near-total collapse of rehabilitation and medical services across the Strip due to the destruction of health infrastructure and the massive wave of injuries caused by months of bombardment. By September 2025, the number of injured Palestinians had surpassed 170,000, with at least a quarter requiring medium- to long-term rehabilitation care.
Health officials described the situation as a humanitarian disaster unparalleled in modern times, warning that without immediate international intervention, thousands of injured Palestinians — many of them children — will face permanent disability and immense suffering.
“The scale of child amputations in Gaza is a stain on the conscience of humanity,” the Ministry said in its statement. “Israel’s aggression has maimed an entire generation, and the silence of the international community only deepens the wounds of our people.”
The Ministry called on international organizations, humanitarian agencies, and medical institutions to join hands in supporting the rehabilitation fund and rebuilding what remains of Gaza’s health system.
Despite the devastation, the Ministry stressed that the Palestinian people will continue to demonstrate steadfastness, resilience, and hope, standing firm against attempts to erase their existence. The rehabilitation initiative, it added, is not merely about physical healing but about restoring dignity, independence, and life to the wounded heroes of Gaza. (ILKHA)
