Thousands rally across Spain in solidarity with Palestinians
Large-scale demonstrations and marches in solidarity with the Palestinian people were held in more than 40 locations across Spain on Saturday, including the capital Madrid and Barcelona, according to local and media reports.
Thousands of Spaniards took to public squares on Saturday evening to express their condemnation and protest against Israel, marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which is observed annually on November 29. Madrid and Barcelona recorded the largest turnouts among the participating cities.
Protesters carried signs reading “Stop the genocide” and “Complete ban on arms sales to Israel,” while chanting slogans such as “Free Palestine” and “Israel is a killer.”
A broad coalition of Spanish civil society organizations released a unified statement, denouncing what they described as 78 years of Israeli colonialism, military occupation, apartheid policies, and systematic displacement. They criticized Israel for failing to adhere to the announced ceasefire in Gaza, accusing it of repeated violations and deliberate delays in allowing humanitarian aid to enter the besieged enclave.
The organizations called on governments worldwide to sever all diplomatic, economic, sports, cultural, and academic ties with Israel. They urged the international community to impose sanctions on Tel Aviv and support legal actions against Israeli officials at both the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.
Saturday’s demonstrations add to a growing wave of global protests demanding accountability, an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza, and stronger international action to uphold Palestinian rights. (ILKHA)
