Typhoon Jangmi hits Japan: 23 injured, evacuation advisory issued for 1.5 million people
Typhoon Jangmi swept across parts of Japan with torrential rain and strong winds reaching up to 130 kilometers per hour, leaving 23 people injured and prompting evacuation advisories for more than 1.5 million residents.
The storm, which affected multiple regions throughout the week, caused damage to homes, widespread power outages, and disruptions to transportation networks.
Authorities warned residents in high-risk areas to remain alert as concerns over flooding and landslides increased due to continuing heavy rainfall.
According to local reports, 23 people were injured as a result of the typhoon, with 17 of those injuries recorded in Okinawa.
Severe weather conditions damaged at least 57 homes, while nearly 60,000 households experienced electricity outages.
Officials issued evacuation advisories for approximately 1.52 million people living in vulnerable areas, urging residents to move to safer locations as precautionary measures intensified.
Meanwhile, Tokyo’s Chiyoda district recorded 105 millimeters of rainfall within just three hours, marking the highest precipitation level recorded in the area during the month.
Authorities continue monitoring weather conditions as emergency response teams remain on alert for further flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage linked to the storm. (ILKHA)
