UNICEF urges immediate evacuation of 25 infants from Gaza after Israel shelling of hospital

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued an urgent plea for the evacuation of at least 25 sick and premature infants from incubators in Gaza City, following relentless Israeli attacks on medical facilities.
The call comes in response to overnight shelling targeting Al-Helou Hospital, which houses nearly half of the infants in critical care. Medical sources in Gaza confirmed that Israeli tanks have surrounded the hospital, leaving vulnerable infants exposed to continuous bombardment while staff struggle to provide care under extreme conditions.
Approximately 12 infants remain in incubators, with limited access to life-saving medical equipment and oxygen due to the ongoing attacks. UNICEF emphasized that the evacuation is essential to save the lives of these newborns, warning that any delay could result in catastrophic consequences.
Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly condemned the targeting of hospitals and medical infrastructure in Gaza, highlighting that such attacks constitute a blatant violation of international law. The ongoing blockade and military assaults continue to threaten the health and survival of Gaza’s youngest and most vulnerable residents.
The situation underscores the urgent need for international intervention, safe corridors for medical evacuations, and immediate cessation of attacks on healthcare facilities. (ILKHA)
