Venezuela accuses U.S. of launching psychological warfare after sanctions fail
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said Washington has shifted from economic pressure to an unprecedented campaign of “military-backed psychological warfare,” warning that the region faces one of the most serious challenges in its modern history.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil accused the United States administration of escalating its pressure on Caracas by launching a coordinated psychological warfare campaign after years of economic sanctions failed to achieve Washington’s objectives.
Speaking at the opening session of the People’s Assembly for Peace and Sovereignty of Our America in Caracas, Gil stated that the U.S. has begun using “economic power, military power, and above all media power” to wage a new phase of confrontation. According to Gil, this strategy represents an unprecedented attempt to influence public opinion and destabilize regional governments.
He stressed that the region is facing “a historic challenge,” noting that the conference brought together over 500 delegates from nearly 50 countries across several continents, reflecting growing international concern regarding Washington’s posture in Latin America.
Gil said the event, organized by the Venezuelan National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, would discuss critical issues, including renewed U.S. military threats, transnational crime in the region, and Washington’s efforts to revive the Monroe Doctrine in order to reassert its influence over Latin America.
Venezuela has repeatedly condemned the recent deployment of significant U.S. military assets in the Caribbean, which Washington claims is part of counter-narcotics operations. Caracas views these moves as direct interference aimed at facilitating regime change in the country.
International media have recently highlighted ongoing tensions between Washington and left-leaning governments in the region. U.S. criticism of Venezuela’s political system, alongside accusations of authoritarianism, continues to shape diplomatic discourse. Venezuelan officials, however, argue that Western narratives are part of a coordinated media campaign designed to weaken regional sovereignty.
Gil reiterated that Venezuela would resist all external attempts to impose political conditions, asserting that the country remains committed to defending its independence despite increasing pressure.
The minister warned that the psychological warfare being waged today represents one of the most complex phases of U.S. intervention in Latin America, adding that Venezuela and its partners would continue mobilizing international support to counter the campaign. (ILKHA)
