Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 4,734
The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has risen to 4,734, according to figures released on Tuesday by senior lawmaker Jorge Rodríguez.
Rodríguez said the updated toll reflects the scale of the destruction caused by the powerful earthquakes that struck on June 24, leaving thousands dead, injured, or displaced across affected areas.
The number of injured remained unchanged at 16,740, while 17,907 people were still homeless as a result of the disaster.
The twin earthquakes caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and public services, forcing thousands of families into temporary shelters and emergency accommodation.
Authorities and emergency responders continue to assess the damage and provide assistance to survivors, while recovery and reconstruction efforts remain ongoing.
The disaster has placed additional strain on Venezuela's emergency response system as officials work to restore basic services and support communities affected by the quakes. (ILKHA)
