Yemen: American airstrikes kill four civilians, injure 16 in Sanaa

A U.S. airstrike struck a residential area in Sanaa’s Shaoub district on Sunday, killing four civilians and injuring 16 others, including women and children, according to Yemen’s Health Ministry.
The attack, which hit the Shaab al-Hafa neighborhood northeast of the capital, has been labeled a “war crime” by Yemeni officials, who say it targeted a civilian home without warning.
Emergency crews are still pulling the wounded from the debris, with the death toll possibly rising as rescue efforts continue. Health Ministry spokesperson Anis al-Asbahi slammed the strike as “a blatant violation of international law and human decency,” accusing the U.S. of adding yet another chapter to its “bloodstained record” in Yemen.
The Sanaa bombing wasn’t the only U.S. action that day—four additional airstrikes hit Kamaran Island off Hodeidah’s coast, part of an ongoing campaign that’s hammered civilian infrastructure in recent weeks. The Health Ministry reports that since mid-March, U.S. strikes have killed at least 92 civilians and wounded 165, with entire families among the casualties.
The U.S. defends its operations as necessary to “protect interests” and “counter threats,” but Yemenis call it a merciless assault on a nation already battered by war and blockade. Al-Asbahi described the strikes as “state terror” aimed at crushing Yemen’s resistance to foreign control.
Critics point to a lack of international outcry, with human rights groups and the UN yet to mount a strong response, leaving the U.S. unchecked. Meanwhile, Yemenis remain unbowed, promising to stand firm against what they see as American aggression. (ILKHA)
