Zelenskyy rejects U.S. proposal for access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has turned down a U.S. proposal that would have given America access to Ukraine's rich deposits of rare earth minerals.
Zelenskyy argued that the deal was heavily tilted in favor of U.S. interests.
The matter was a key point during Zelenskyy’s discussions with U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference on Friday. Sources close to the talks indicated that the agreement lacked the security assurances Ukraine was demanding in return for mineral rights.
“I didn’t let the ministers sign a relevant agreement because in my view it is not ready to protect us, our interest,” Zelenskyy said.
The proposal was framed as compensation for past U.S. aid to Ukraine and payment for future support, according to anonymous sources involved in the negotiations.
Zelenskyy's refusal highlights Ukraine's push for stronger assurances and mutual benefits in any international resource-sharing deals, emphasizing the country's commitment to safeguarding its national interests amidst complex geopolitical dynamics. (ILKHA)
