Iran-Afghanistan trade surges despite ongoing US-Israeli aggression
The Iranian Consul General in Herat, Ali Reza Marhamati, has announced that trade between Iran and Afghanistan continues to grow despite ongoing military tensions in Iran.
Speaking at a press conference, Marhamati emphasized that the borders between the two countries remain fully operational, allowing thousands of tons of commercial goods to enter Afghanistan daily via both road and rail networks.
“Trade with Afghanistan is continuing normally, the borders are open, and all goods related to Afghanistan that are in transit are being transferred without any obstacles. According to the statistics provided, more than 1,300 trucks move between the two countries without any problems,” he said.
According to the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, trade between the two nations has increased by nearly 40 percent in recent days. Officials noted that the ongoing conflict in Iran has not yet affected commercial exchanges.
Mohammad Yousuf Amin, executive director of the Chamber, added:
“The transfer of commercial goods through the Islam Qala border and the Herat–Khaf railway continues daily, and so far no problems have arisen in this regard.”
A significant portion of raw materials for the Herat Industrial Park is imported from Iran or routed through the country. According to the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, shipments continue uninterrupted.
Mohammad Nasser Amin, head of the Chamber of Industries and Mines, stated:
“Most of the goods required for the industrial park are imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Even if Iran has stopped exporting to some countries, our imports from this country are continuing as usual.”
Following the closure of Afghanistan’s border crossings with Pakistan, Iran has emerged as the primary route for Afghanistan’s imports and exports. Trade volumes remain robust despite recent heavy airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory.
Officials emphasize that the continuation of trade is essential for Afghanistan’s economy, ensuring that goods and raw materials reach markets and industrial zones without disruption. (ILKHA)
