Türkiye reports sharp annual increase in agricultural input prices

Türkiye’s agricultural sector continues to face rising costs, as the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) reported that the Agricultural Input Price Index (Agricultural-IPI) increased by 33.88% annually and 2.52% compared to the previous month in June 2025.
The Agricultural-IPI, which tracks prices of goods and services used in farming, rose to 756.31 points, marking a 17.88% increase since December 2024 and a 32.27% rise based on twelve-month moving averages.
The index is divided into two main groups. Goods and services currently consumed in agriculture, such as seeds, feed, and fuel, rose by 2.79% monthly and 33.92% annually, reaching 726.31 points. Goods and services contributing to agricultural investment, including machinery and equipment, increased by 0.95% monthly and 33.61% annually, with the index reaching 995.94 points.
Among the subgroups, veterinary expenses saw the steepest annual increase, surging by 61.77%, while fertilizers and soil improvers recorded the highest monthly growth at 6.05%.
Analysts warn that rising input costs could affect agricultural production and food prices in the coming months, putting additional pressure on farmers already dealing with inflationary challenges.
TurkStat’s data underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Türkiye’s agricultural sector as it navigates high costs for essential inputs and investment goods critical for sustaining production. (ILKHA)
