Bosphorus closed due to tanker engine failure
The Bosphorus Strait, a vital waterway connecting the Black Sea to the Mediterranean, was temporarily closed to ship traffic on Monday due to an engine failure on a tanker.
The 171-meter-long tanker, named SREDINA, experienced engine trouble while sailing from Romania to Libya. Turkish authorities responded promptly, dispatching three tugboats to the scene to assist the vessel.
The Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Center coordinated the operation, safely anchoring the tanker at Türkeli Anchorage Area with the assistance of a pilot and the tugboats.
To ensure the safety of navigation, the Bosphorus was closed to two-way traffic until the situation was resolved. (ILKHA)
