Islamic NGOs in Diyarbakır to protest headscarf restrictions in Azerbaijan
Islamic civil society organizations in Diyarbakır, southeastern Türkiye, will hold a press conference after Friday prayers tomorrow to protest restrictions and rights violations targeting women who wear the headscarf in Azerbaijan.
The gathering, organized under the slogan “Do Not Remain Silent Against the Headscarf Oppression in Azerbaijan,” will take place outside the historic Ulu Camii (Grand Mosque) following the Friday prayer.
Organizers said the event aims to draw public attention to the difficulties faced by headscarf-wearing women in Azerbaijan and raise awareness of violations of religious freedoms and fundamental rights.
The participating Islamic non-governmental organizations called on members of the public to attend the press conference and support efforts to defend the right to practice one's faith.
The announcement comes amid growing criticism from Islamic groups in Türkiye over restrictions on Islamic dress in Azerbaijan. Advocates argue that women should be able to wear the headscarf without discrimination or exclusion from education and employment.
The organizers said the gathering would serve as a public expression of solidarity with Azerbaijani women affected by the restrictions and a call for respect for religious freedom and human dignity. (ILKHA)
