Mecca Alliance delegation holds high-level security talks in Tehran
Senior officials from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan met Iranian leaders in Tehran on Monday for high-level talks focused on regional security, de-escalation efforts and ongoing crises across the Middle East, marking the first senior-level engagement between the Mecca Alliance and Iran.
According to information released by the Iranian Embassy in Ankara and confirmed by regional officials, National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director İbrahim Kalın, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir are participating in the meetings.
The delegation is expected to hold talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, with discussions focusing on strengthening regional dialogue and addressing common security challenges.
Regional security and de-escalation on the agenda
The meetings are expected to cover the situations in Palestine, Lebanon, developments in the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf region, as well as the consequences of the Israel regime's regional policies and the military activities carried out by the United States and the Israel regime against Iran.
The participants are also expected to exchange views on preventing further escalation and supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions across the region.
The visit comes amid growing regional efforts to contain ongoing conflicts through dialogue and coordination among regional actors.
Mecca Alliance expands diplomatic engagement
The Mecca Alliance, established by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, was created to strengthen defence cooperation and develop a common regional security framework among its members.
The alliance drew international attention following the signing of the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in August, under which an armed attack against one member is regarded as an attack against all three countries.
Monday's meeting in Tehran highlights the alliance's intention to complement defence cooperation with diplomatic engagement, maintaining channels of communication with regional countries while promoting stability and conflict prevention.
First high-level meeting with Iran
The Tehran talks mark the first high-level meeting between Mecca Alliance representatives and Iranian officials since the alliance was established.
Iran has consistently argued that regional security should be built through cooperation among countries in the region rather than external intervention. The discussions are therefore expected to explore opportunities for strengthening regional security mechanisms through dialogue and mutual understanding.
While the meeting reflects a shared interest in reducing tensions and expanding diplomatic contacts, no announcement has been made regarding any new agreement or changes to the alliance's current framework.(ILKHA)
