Over 1,600 Turkish citizens evacuated from Sudan--Diplomatic sources
According to Turkish diplomatic sources, over 1,600 Turkish citizens have been evacuated from Sudan to Ethiopia due to violent clashes between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support forces that have resulted in hundreds of deaths.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry is coordinating the evacuation efforts, with Turkish citizens being transported by buses from Sudan to the Ethiopian border, where they are then taken to Gondar airport with the help of vehicles provided by the Turkish Embassy in Ethiopia.
From there, they are flown to Addis Ababa using planes leased from Ethiopian Airlines and then continue their journey to Turkey via the Addis Ababa-Istanbul route.
The first plane carrying 164 Turkish citizens has already arrived in Addis Ababa.
Since the start of the conflict on April 15, 459 people have been killed and 4,072 injured in Khartoum and other Sudanese cities. (ILKHA)
