Three-story building collapses in Konya, rescue efforts underway

A three-story building in Konya’s central Selçuklu district collapsed on Friday, prompting an immediate response from emergency teams.
The incident occurred on Beyşehir Street in the Selçuk neighborhood, with eyewitnesses quickly notifying authorities.
Emergency teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), 112 Emergency Health, and local police were dispatched to the scene to initiate search and rescue operations.
Preliminary reports suggest that 3–4 individuals were inside the building at the time of the collapse. So far, two people have been rescued alive, but authorities believe five or six individuals may still be trapped under the rubble.
Governor İbrahim Akin confirmed the developments, stating: “We have information that there were five people inside; we pulled out two of our citizens alive. Our work continues.”
Rescue teams are actively working to locate those potentially trapped, using specialized equipment and trained personnel. Onlookers have been urged to remain silent near the site to aid in the detection of survivors.
Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay addressed the situation on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “We have received news of the collapse of an old building in our Selçuk neighborhood. Our search and rescue and medical teams have arrived at the scene, and operations are ongoing. Please ensure there is no traffic congestion on Beyşehir Street.”
Authorities have called for cooperation from the public, requesting they avoid the area to allow emergency teams to work efficiently.
The collapsed structure has left debris scattered across Beyşehir Street, and the scene is being closely monitored by police to ensure safety.
Rescue efforts continue as families of the missing await updates and the community offers its support. (ILKHA)
