Turkish Coast Guard rescues 17 migrants pushed back by Greek forces off İzmir
The Turkish Coast Guard rescued 17 irregular migrants, including two children, after they were allegedly pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities off the coast of Seferihisar in İzmir province.
The incident occurred after teams received a report of a life raft drifting near the Seferihisar coastline. The Coast Guard dispatched Boat KB-89 to the area, where crews located the stranded migrants and brought them safely aboard.
"Upon receiving information that a group of irregular migrants was present in a life raft off the coast of Seferihisar, İzmir, the assigned Coast Guard Boat (KB-89) rescued 17 irregular migrants (including 2 children) who had been pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek elements," the Coast Guard Command said in a statement.
According to officials, the migrants were taken to a regional processing center for medical checks and registration. Turkish authorities have repeatedly criticized Greece for its pushback practices, arguing that such actions endanger lives and violate international humanitarian norms. (ILKHA)
