Turkish Energy Minister Bayraktar meets UN Secretary-General Guterres in London
Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, alongside Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum, met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during an official visit to London.
The high-level discussions focused extensively on the global fight against the climate crisis, the implementation of a just energy transition for developing nations, and critical steps required in global sustainability.
Following the meeting, Minister Bayraktar described the bilateral talks as highly productive, emphasizing that global cooperation remains essential to achieving meaningful progress in international climate goals.
Highlighting Türkiye's strategic framework, Bayraktar reiterated the country's commitment to its "Fully Independent Türkiye in Energy" vision, which serves as the cornerstone of its domestic policy.
The Minister noted that Türkiye has already achieved significant milestones in renewable energy capacity, revealing a strategic roadmap that aims to triple this established capacity by the year 2035.
Furthermore, Bayraktar confirmed that ongoing infrastructure investments in energy efficiency remain a high priority as Türkiye progresses toward its broader 2053 Net Zero Emission targets.
In alignment with Türkiye's vision for the COP31 Presidency, the Minister concluded that balancing energy supply security with rigorous environmental policies is critical for fostering a sustainable and clean future.
The high-level meeting underscores Türkiye's intensifying diplomatic efforts to secure the presidency for the COP31 climate summit, positioning the nation as a bridge for climate mediation between developed and developing economies.
