Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is slated to embark on a visit to Iraq next week, where he will engage in discussions with Iraqi officials to address matters of national security and economic interests.

A pivotal topic on the agenda will be the resumption of crude oil exports from the Iraqi Kurdistan region, specifically through the Turkish Port of Ceyhan, which holds significant implications for both nations.

The news of President Erdogan's forthcoming visit was conveyed during a meeting between Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, and the Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Ali Reza Gunay on July 25, according to Iraq's state news agency (INA).

During the meeting, various pressing issues were brought to the forefront, including President Erdogan's visit to Baghdad itself. Furthermore, plans were discussed for a joint economic forum, set to convene in Basra later in 2023, as well as Turkey's active participation in the Development Route alongside Iraq's neighboring countries. Matters concerning water resources and the establishment of a joint measurement center on the Iraqi-Turkish border were also part of the agenda.

Prime Minister Sudani reiterated his commitment to bolstering economic growth, trade, and investment between Turkey and Iraq. He emphasized the importance of activating joint committees to oversee the implementation of previously signed Memorandums of Understanding and bilateral agreements, particularly with neighboring countries.
