Türkiye congratulates Syria on first anniversary of liberation day
The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the first anniversary of Syria’s 8 December Liberation Day, congratulating the Syrian people on what it described as a historic milestone marking the end of the civil war and the collapse of the Assad regime.
In its official press release, the ministry said it “wholeheartedly congratulates the Syrian people” as they commemorate the anniversary of December 8, 2024, which it characterized as the date symbolizing Syria’s transition away from years of conflict and authoritarian rule.
The statement praised the Syrian government’s conduct over the past year, noting that despite serious political, security, and economic challenges, Damascus has pursued what Türkiye described as a prudent and peaceful foreign policy. According to the ministry, Syrian authorities have taken “lasting steps” toward restoring the country’s standing and dignity within the international community.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also underlined Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to Syria’s recovery, declaring that Ankara will continue to strongly support efforts aimed at establishing long-term stability, security, and prosperity across Syrian territory.
Officials stressed that Türkiye views Syria’s stabilization as vital not only for Syrians themselves but also for broader regional peace and cooperation, adding that Ankara stands ready to deepen diplomatic and humanitarian engagement with its southern neighbor as the reconstruction and political transition processes continue.
