AK Party Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Candidate Binali Yıldırım stated his rival Ekrem Imamoğlu, CHP’s candidate, is heading the election and congratulated him.

AK Party Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Candidate Binali Yıldırım made statements after the announcement of the first results of the Istanbul re-run election.

"As of now my rival Ekrem Imamoglu is leading. I congratulate him. I wish success,” Yıldrım said.

According to the unofficial results, Republican People's Party candidate Ekrem Imamoğlu leads the election race with 53.72 percent against Binali Yıldırım's 45.37 percent with 95 percent of the ballot boxes opened.

Over 10.5 million people were eligible to cast their ballots. (ILKHA)
