Türkiye to host International Astronautical Congress for first time in 2026
The 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2026) will be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 5 to 9 October 2026, marking a historic milestone as Türkiye hosts the world’s largest and most prestigious space conference for the first time.
The landmark event will be hosted by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) and co-hosted by the SAHA Istanbul Aerospace Cluster, underscoring Türkiye’s growing role in the global space and aerospace ecosystem. Thousands of space professionals, policymakers, scientists, engineers, and industry leaders from around the world are expected to attend.
Renowned for its Mediterranean coastline, rich cultural heritage, and strong tourism infrastructure, Antalya will provide a unique setting for the congress, combining global scientific exchange with Türkiye’s tradition of hospitality and innovation.
“The World Needs More Space”
The theme of IAC 2026, “The World Needs More Space,” reflects the increasing importance of outer space exploration and utilization in addressing global challenges. The theme invites visionary ideas, cutting-edge technologies, and pioneering research, emphasizing the need for a secure, accessible, and cooperative space environment.
Organizers highlighted that as more nations and private actors enter the space domain, ensuring the sustainable, peaceful, and equitable use of space has become a global priority. The congress will focus on space as a shared resource that must be protected for future generations while fostering collaboration across countries regardless of their level of development.
Focus on Security, Sustainability, and Ethics
IAC 2026 will address pressing issues including space security, scientific exploration, commercialization, and the ethical implications of human activity beyond Earth. Discussions are expected to cover topics such as satellite sustainability, space debris, international space law, planetary exploration, and the expanding global space economy.
By bringing together experts from governments, academia, international organizations, and the private sector, the congress aims to shape policies and partnerships that will define the future of space activities.
A Milestone for Türkiye’s Space Vision
Hosting the International Astronautical Congress represents a significant step for Türkiye’s national space ambitions and its integration into the global space community. The event is expected to boost Türkiye’s visibility in the international space sector while strengthening cooperation with global partners.
Organizers described IAC 2026 as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of space exploration and utilization. Participants are invited to join the global dialogue in Antalya and help ensure that space remains a domain of opportunity, inspiration, and unity for generations to come. (ILKHA)
