The Asra Media Office (AMO) has reported that 17 Jordanian nationals are currently being held in Israeli jails, while the fate of 34 other Jordanians who have gone missing remains unknown.
In a statement issued Sunday, AMO expressed concern that some of the missing Jordanians could be held in undisclosed detention facilities or buried in what are known as Israel’s “cemeteries of numbers,” where the identities of buried Palestinians and others have historically been withheld.
The organization said all Jordanian prisoners currently held in Israeli custody have been denied contact with their families. It also said visits by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been suspended for more than 1,000 days, leaving the detainees’ conditions largely unmonitored.
According to AMO, the 17 prisoners include four serving life sentences, eight serving fixed prison terms, one held under administrative detention and four detainees who have yet to receive final verdicts.
Among the most prominent Jordanian prisoners serving life sentences is Abdullah al-Barghouthi, who AMO said is serving 67 life terms. Other prisoners identified by the organization include Mohamed Rimawi, Ra’ed Khalil and Kamal Juri.
AMO also raised concerns over the deteriorating health of several Jordanian detainees, particularly Mohamed Rimawi and Ahmad Awad, saying they are suffering from worsening medical conditions amid what it described as inadequate medical care in Israeli prisons.
The organization further highlighted the plight of the 34 missing Jordanians, whose whereabouts remain unknown and whose families have yet to receive definitive answers from the authorities.
AMO called attention to the lack of information surrounding the missing individuals, warning that their families continue to live with uncertainty over whether their relatives are being detained, have died in custody or remain unaccounted for.
