Afghanistan, OIC discuss strengthening cooperation on refugees and drug control
Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, met with Tariq Ali Bakhit, the Deputy Director of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to discuss critical issues facing the country, officials stated.
The high-level meeting, held in Kabul, centered on a range of pressing matters, including the situation of returnee refugees, ongoing security challenges, and Afghanistan's efforts in the fight against drug trafficking. A key part of the dialogue was dedicated to exploring avenues for enhancing cooperation between the Afghan administration and the 57-member international organization.
Minister Muttaqi acknowledged the OIC's ongoing support and specifically called for its continuation, highlighting the urgent needs of the population as the winter season approaches.
In response, Deputy Director Bakhit praised the accomplishments of the Islamic Emirate across various sectors. He further assured that the OIC would work to mobilize support and advocate for increased assistance for Afghan refugees through its member states.
The meeting underscores the continuing engagement between Afghanistan's de facto authorities and international Islamic bodies on humanitarian and developmental issues. (ILKHA)
