Australia flood crisis: Emergency airdrops aid isolated farmers

Emergency helicopters have begun delivering animal feed to isolated farmers in southeast Australia following catastrophic floods that have claimed at least five lives and left tens of thousands stranded.
The New South Wales (NSW) region, one of the hardest-hit areas, has launched recovery operations as floodwaters begin to recede after days of relentless rainfall. Authorities report that approximately 32,000 residents remain cut off, with entire communities still inaccessible by road.
In response, the NSW state government has deployed helicopters to airlift fodder and provide essential veterinary support to livestock trapped by rising waters. Many farmers have suffered extensive losses, with livestock swept away and farmland submerged.
Emergency teams are also working to restore access to cut-off communities, while aid deliveries continue to reach affected households. The damage includes destroyed homes, washed-out roads, and displaced families.
Experts have again raised concerns over the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events in Australia, attributing the latest disaster to the broader impacts of climate change. The floods come in the wake of devastating bushfires and prolonged droughts that have battered the country in recent years.
While water levels are slowly dropping, officials caution that full recovery will take time and significant resources. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide support to those in need as rescue and relief efforts intensify. (ILKHA)
