Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei pardons 2,000 Iranian prisoners ahead of Eid al-Ghadir
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has approved a proposal to grant clemency to 2,000 Iranian prisoners in celebration of the Eid al-Ghadir holiday.
The decision follows a formal request submitted by the country’s Judiciary Chief, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei. The amnesty will apply to individuals sentenced across various courts throughout Iran.
The mass pardon aligns with Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution, which legally empowers the Leader to reduce sentences or pardon convicts based on the direct recommendation of the head of the Judiciary.
The timing of the announcement coincides with Eid al-Ghadir, a major festive occasion in the country. The holiday commemorates the historical appointment of the first Shiite Imam, Ali ibn Abi Talib, as successor by the Prophet Muhammad. Iranian leadership traditionally marks major religious and national holidays by issuing judicial pardons for eligible prisoners. (ILKHA)
