Death toll from Nepal floods and landslides rises above 1,200
The death toll from devastating floods and landslides in Nepal has risen to 1,204, while 4,216 people remain missing, according to the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
Authorities said 301 people were injured in the disaster, while 21,314 security personnel have been mobilized to support search, rescue and relief operations across the affected areas.
Officials said rescue teams continue efforts to locate missing people and provide assistance to communities affected by the widespread flooding and landslides.
In neighboring China's Tibet region, authorities confirmed 21 deaths, while 541 people remain missing following the disaster, which has affected areas near the Nepal-China border.
Scientists and geologists said the disaster was triggered by a major glacier collapse in the Himalayas, which caused a powerful flow of water, mud and debris through river valleys.
The collapse intensified flooding and landslides in mountainous areas, causing widespread destruction and leaving thousands of people in need of emergency assistance.
Search and rescue operations remain ongoing as authorities continue assessing the full scale of the damage.(ILKHA)
