Explosions reported near Iran's Qeshm Island and Bandar Lengeh
Reports of explosions emerged from Iran's southern Qeshm Island and waters off Bandar Lengeh on Monday night, following the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force's announcement that it had intercepted two American drones using electronic warfare.
Iranian media reported hearing explosions on Qeshm Island, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, before reporting a separate explosion in waters off Bandar Lengeh in southern Iran.
Tehran-based Fars News Agency initially reported that explosions had been heard on Qeshm Island on Monday night. The agency later reported sounds of an explosion in the waters off Bandar Lengeh.
The reports came after the IRGC Aerospace Force announced that it had brought down two US MQM-170 drones near Qeshm Island using electronic warfare capabilities.
The reported interceptions highlight Iran's heightened vigilance over its southern airspace and strategic waterways, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for international energy shipments.
No further details were immediately available regarding the source of the reported explosions or whether they were directly connected to the drone interceptions. (ILKHA)
