Five Palestinians, including three children, killed as Israeli forces open fire near shelters in Jabalia
Genocidal regime killed five Palestinians, among them three children, after opening fire near makeshift shelters in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza, according to local medical sources and eyewitness accounts.
Health workers reported that the victims were struck while attempting to retrieve basic supplies near a cluster of tents where thousands of displaced families have been living for weeks. One of the children was confirmed to have died from a gunshot wound to the head. Medical teams noted that the injured were transported under heavy bombardment, further delaying treatment and increasing the risk of additional casualties.
Residents in Jabalia stated that occupatıon troops positioned around the area have repeatedly targeted civilians attempting to move between the overcrowded camp sections in search of food, water, and medicine. The incident follows a series of similar attacks documented in recent days, as reported by Anadolu Agency, which cited local health authorities confirming multiple civilian deaths across Gaza under continued Israeli air and ground operations.
The assault occurred as severe weather battered displacement camps throughout the enclave. Heavy rain, dropping temperatures, and flooding overwhelmed thousands of makeshift tents, leaving families exposed to life-threatening conditions. Humanitarian workers warned that the combination of Israeli attacks, lack of shelter materials, and deteriorating weather has pushed already fragile living conditions to critical levels.
Local sources described scenes of children standing ankle-deep in water inside collapsed tents as families struggled to protect their remaining belongings. Emergency teams reported that numerous infants, elderly individuals, and chronically ill patients were suffering from cold-related complications due to the absence of heating, adequate clothing, and sanitary living space.
Relief organizations operating in northern Gaza reiterated that the ongoing siege has prevented the entry of essential supplies, exacerbating the crisis. Aid groups stressed that without immediate access for humanitarian convoys, deaths from exposure, disease, and malnutrition are expected to rise sharply.
The recent killing of the five Palestinians in Jabalia adds to the steadily growing toll of civilians who, according to Gaza-based health officials cited by Anadolu Agency and other regional outlets, continue to die daily despite a nominal reduction in large-scale bombardments. Human rights observers have repeatedly called for independent investigations into attacks on displaced populations sheltering in designated civilian areas.
Palestinian officials say the occupation regime has systematically violated the ceasefire. Gaza Government Media Office Director Ismail al-Thawabta stated that Israel has martyred 386 Palestinians since the agreement took effect, describing the ongoing attacks as clear proof that the regime is not committed to any truce.
Local residents emphasized that, in addition to the direct attacks, the collapse of living conditions due to winter storms has effectively left tens of thousands of families facing what they describe as a dual threat: Israeli gunfire on one side and severe weather on the other.(ILKHA)
