The death toll from severe flooding in India's northeastern state of Assam has climbed to 41 after 10 more people lost their lives over the past 24 hours, authorities said.

Heavy monsoon rains have inundated large parts of the state, affecting around 727,000 people across 25 districts and forcing thousands from their homes.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said more than 100 people remain missing, raising fears that the death toll could increase as search operations continue. The Indian Army has joined local emergency teams in rescue and relief efforts.

Authorities said floodwaters have damaged homes, roads and farmland, while relief camps continue to shelter displaced residents.

Weather officials have warned that further rainfall could worsen conditions in low-lying areas.(ILKHA)
