Gaza death toll climbs to 72,941 as Israeli genocidal aggression claims more Palestinian lives
Medical authorities in the Gaza Strip reported on Monday that the Palestinian death toll from Israel’s ongoing military offensive has climbed to 72,941, with at least 172,967 people injured since the war began on October 7, 2023.
According to Gaza’s health ministry sources, hospitals received two more bodies and 40 wounded Palestinians in the last 24 hours alone, underscoring the relentless suffering inflicted on the civilian population.
Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on October 11 last year, Israeli actions have still resulted in 932 additional Palestinian deaths and 2,859 injuries, while rescue teams have recovered 781 bodies from the rubble during this period.
Medical officials highlighted that many more victims remain trapped under destroyed buildings and in areas rendered inaccessible by the destruction. Ambulance and civil defense crews continue to face severe obstacles in reaching those in need, exacerbating the humanitarian catastrophe.
This latest surge in casualties comes amid what many describe as Israel’s prolonged assault on the densely populated enclave, which has led to widespread devastation of homes, hospitals, schools, and essential infrastructure. Palestinian officials and human rights advocates have repeatedly condemned the scale of destruction and loss of life, particularly among women and children, as collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
The figures reflect the immense human cost borne by Gaza’s population under continued military pressure, even after the formal ceasefire. International observers have expressed deep concern over the blockade on aid, restrictions on movement, and the slow recovery efforts that leave thousands of families grieving and displaced.
As the Palestinian death toll continues to rise, calls are growing louder for accountability, an immediate and permanent end to hostilities, and unrestricted humanitarian access to prevent further loss of innocent lives in Gaza. (ILKHA)
