A Hamas delegation led by senior official Zaher Jabarin arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for talks with Egyptian officials and mediators aimed at finalizing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

Tahir al-Nunu, political adviser to the head of Hamas' political bureau, said the delegation's top priority is to halt what he described as the Israeli occupation's escalating violations in Gaza, including daily killings and targeted attacks.

According to al-Nunu, the delegation will also seek guarantees that Israeli forces will allow the entry of all humanitarian and essential supplies into the Gaza Strip, including materials needed to restore hospitals, bakeries and critical infrastructure.

He said the talks will address the implementation of the remaining provisions of the ceasefire agreement and examine a roadmap for the second phase of the deal, prepared by mediators in coordination with former UN Special Coordinator Nickolay Mladenov.

Al-Nunu added that discussions would also cover the activation of an administrative committee and the deployment of international protection forces, measures that Hamas says should pave the way for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

"We are serious about reaching an agreement that will end the suffering of our people, stop the occupation's crimes, restore our people's political rights, foremost among them freedom, and advance the establishment of an independent Palestinian state," al-Nunu said.(ILKHA)
