Hamas returns remains of Israeli captive after initial misidentification

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, have returned the body of Israeli captive Shiri Bibas to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
This follows an earlier incident where, due to the chaos from Israeli airstrikes, a misidentification occurred, and the wrong body was handed over. Hamas has acknowledged the mistake and has since corrected it by providing the correct remains. The Israeli authorities have confirmed the identification of Shiri Bibas's body.
In response to the initial mix-up, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement. Hamas, however, attributed the error to the disarray caused by ongoing Israeli attacks and has called for the return of the Palestinian body that was mistakenly sent to Israel.
Despite this incident, the planned exchange of hostages and prisoners is proceeding. Hamas is set to release six Israeli hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, as part of the ongoing ceasefire negotiations.
This development highlights the complexities and challenges in the current situation, where both sides are navigating the aftermath of conflict and the sensitive process of prisoner and body exchanges. (ILKHA)
