Hamas: Stability in Gaza requires end to occupation, full Palestinian rights
The Hamas movement stated that any genuine international effort aimed at achieving stability in Gaza must address what it described as the root cause of the crisis — the Israeli occupation — and ensure that the Palestinian people are able to fully realize their national rights without limitation.
In a statement issued in response to the convening of a Peace Council session on Gaza in the United States, Hamas emphasized that no political process or future arrangements concerning Gaza would be viable without first securing a complete cessation of hostilities.
The movement stressed that any meaningful political framework must begin with an immediate and comprehensive halt to military operations, the lifting of the blockade on Gaza, and guarantees for what it described as the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights — foremost among them freedom and self-determination.
Hamas argued that discussions about Gaza’s future, while violations and ceasefire breaches continue, place a responsibility on the international community and participating parties to take tangible and enforceable measures.
Among the steps it called for are compelling Israel to halt military operations, reopen border crossings, allow the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, and initiate urgent reconstruction efforts to address widespread destruction in the territory.
The movement also urged international actors and mediators to assume what it termed their responsibilities in ensuring the implementation of previously agreed terms. It called for preventing obstruction of humanitarian and political obligations and working seriously toward establishing a permanent ceasefire.
Hamas’ remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic discussions and humanitarian concerns in Gaza, where access to aid, reconstruction efforts, and long-term political arrangements remain central issues in international deliberations.
The statement underscores the movement’s position that stability and reconstruction in Gaza are inseparable from broader political questions related to occupation, sovereignty, and the future status of the Palestinian people. (ILKHA)
