Iran, U.S. to hold indirect high-level talks in Oman on Saturday

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff are set to lead upcoming indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, scheduled to take place in Muscat, Oman on Saturday.
The talks will be held under Omani mediation and mark a significant diplomatic engagement as the two sides attempt to ease long-standing tensions. Iranian state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency confirmed Araghchi’s participation, citing a brief message from the foreign minister himself.
Earlier on Tuesday, Araghchi described the talks as “an opportunity and a test” for the United States, underscoring both the stakes and the potential for progress in the delicate diplomatic process.
While details of the agenda remain limited, the dialogue is expected to cover a range of regional and nuclear-related issues, amid heightened tensions across the Middle East. The Sultanate of Oman has long played a mediating role between Iran and the West, and this latest round of dialogue continues its tradition of quiet diplomacy.
This marks the highest-level indirect engagement between the U.S. and Iran since the start of recent escalations in the region, and observers are watching closely for signs of de-escalation or renewed commitments to diplomatic channels. (ILKHA)
