Iranian Foreign Ministry slams US airstrikes as “blatant violation” of ceasefire memorandum
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned renewed US airstrikes targeting monitoring and surveillance facilities along the country’s southern coast, describing the attacks as a blatant violation of international law and existing ceasefire understandings.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran said the strikes were carried out in the early hours by what it called the “terrorist army of the United States,” targeting several coastal monitoring installations.
The ministry denounced the attacks as a “clear violation” of paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of states. It further stated that the strikes also constitute an explicit breach of paragraph one of the memorandum of understanding that formally ended recent hostilities on June 18, 2026.
According to the statement, the United States’ repeated military actions demonstrate that Washington “assigns the least value and credibility to its commitments,” accusing the US of systematically undermining diplomatic agreements through continued aggression.
Iranian officials argued that such actions reflect a broader pattern of disregard for international obligations and warned that continued violations threaten regional stability and global security.
The Foreign Ministry also called on the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to assume their responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, urging them to take a firm stance against what Tehran described as unlawful US military behavior.
Reaffirming Iran’s position, the statement stressed that the Islamic Republic remains fully committed to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. It cited Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognizes the inherent right of self-defense, as the legal basis for Iran’s response to any foreign aggression.
Tehran underlined that it will continue to safeguard its national interests and respond decisively to any further violations of its sovereignty, while holding Washington accountable for escalating tensions through military action. (ILKHA)
