Iraqi resistance fighters destroy radar system at US airbase in Erbil
An Iraqi resistance group has claimed responsibility for destroying three key sensitive locations at the US-operated Harir Air Base in Erbil, resulting in a significant decline in American military activities at the facility.
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, citing a source within the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, reported that three sensitive positions inside the Harir base—where US troops are stationed—were targeted in precise attacks carried out in parallel with missile strikes on the Victoria base near Baghdad International Airport.
The source claimed that over the past two weeks, repeated drone and missile operations struck key installations at Harir, including what it described as a central radar system. At least three critical positions were reportedly hit no fewer than four times, resulting in what was described as their destruction.
According to the same source, the impact of the strikes has significantly disrupted US military operations at the base. Air activity has allegedly dropped by as much as 95 percent, while logistical flights have nearly ceased. It was further claimed that US forces are now relying primarily on reconnaissance drone flights rather than helicopter operations at the facility.
A separate security source stated that missiles also struck a key building inside the Victoria base in Baghdad, resulting in casualties among US personnel and base protection forces. Injured soldiers were reportedly evacuated by helicopter to nearby medical facilities.
While Iranian-affiliated outlets have highlighted the scale and effectiveness of the attacks, international and regional media have taken a more cautious stance. Reports from global agencies such as Reuters and regional Arab outlets confirm that US positions in Erbil and Baghdad have come under repeated drone and rocket fire in recent weeks, but have not independently verified claims regarding the extent of damage or operational paralysis at the Harir base.
Arab media sources reported multiple explosions and fires in areas surrounding the base, noting that the exact nature of the attack and the scale of the damage remain unclear.
The attacks come amid escalating regional tensions, with Iraq increasingly emerging as a frontline arena in the broader confrontation involving the United States, Iran, and allied groups. US military installations across the country have been repeatedly targeted, raising concerns over a widening conflict and the security of foreign troops stationed in the region.
No official statement has yet been issued by US authorities regarding the alleged scale of damage or operational impact at Harir Air Base. (ILKHA)
