Islamic Emirate, UNAMA hold talks to support returning Afghan migrants

Dr. Mohammad Naim, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met with Ms. Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), to discuss the urgent needs of Afghan returnees.
During the meeting, held in Kabul, Dr. Naim reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate's commitment to facilitating the operations of international aid organizations and ensuring coordinated humanitarian support. He underscored the importance of continuous cooperation between the Islamic Emirate and UNAMA to provide essential services to migrants returning to Afghanistan, particularly in the areas of shelter, healthcare, and livelihood support.
Ms. Otunbayeva expressed appreciation for the Islamic Emirate’s cooperation in humanitarian matters. She stated that UNAMA remains focused not only on the provision of basic necessities but also on the development of sustainable livelihood programs, including the creation of job opportunities for returnees.
Both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening partnerships to address the growing humanitarian challenges facing Afghanistan’s returning population, amid ongoing regional repatriation movements and economic hardship. The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the need for increased coordination and long-term support mechanisms to ensure dignified reintegration of Afghan migrants. (ILKHA)
