Japan: Tsunami advisory issued in Iwate after magnitude 6.7 offshore quake
A tsunami advisory was issued for Iwate Prefecture on Sunday evening following a magnitude 6.7 earthquake that struck off the coast, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced.
The quake hit at 5:03 p.m. local time, registering a seismic intensity of shindo 4 on Japan's scale in the city of Morioka and the town of Yahaba.
According to the JMA, waves of up to 1 meter were possible along the Iwate coast.
No immediate reports of damage or injuries were available, and authorities urged residents in coastal areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation guidance if necessary.
