Jordanian FM urges collective effort to protect Gaza civilians
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with Takeshi Okubo, special assistant to Japan’s Foreign Ministry overseeing Gaza reconstruction, in Amman on Sunday as regional diplomatic efforts intensify around the fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, Safadi emphasized the importance of collective action to uphold the ceasefire agreement and called on all parties to ensure the immediate and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians, who continue to face urgent needs amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Safadi also highlighted the need to advance the second phase of the ceasefire deal, including reconstruction initiatives for Gaza. He stressed that long-term stability in the region is closely tied to progress toward a credible political framework aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution.
Praising Japan’s ongoing support for humanitarian operations, Safadi noted the close coordination between Tokyo and Amman within broader international efforts to mitigate the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Okubo’s visit to Jordan is part of Japan’s wider diplomatic engagement in the region, with Tokyo positioning itself as a key contributor to post-conflict recovery in Gaza. Both officials reiterated their commitment to collaboration in alleviating human suffering and supporting reconstruction efforts in the Strip.
The talks come as regional and international actors work to consolidate the ceasefire, deliver aid, and lay the groundwork for longer-term peace and reconstruction in the conflict-affected area. (ILKHA)
