Lebanon and Syria agree to ceasefire after deadly border clashes

Lebanese and Syrian defense officials have agreed to a ceasefire following two days of intense border clashes that resulted in 10 fatalities, according to statements from both countries' defense ministries.
The violence erupted over the weekend when militants, allegedly associated with Lebanon's Hezbollah, crossed into Syria and abducted three Syrian soldiers, who were subsequently killed. Hezbollah has denied any involvement in the incident.
In retaliation, Syria shelled Lebanese border villages, leading to seven Lebanese deaths and over 50 injuries. The clashes marked the most severe cross-border conflict since the ousting of former Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The ceasefire agreement, reached late Monday, includes provisions for enhanced coordination and cooperation between the two nations to prevent future escalations.
The recent hostilities have raised concerns about regional stability, prompting calls for international intervention to prevent further violence. (ILKHA)
